I could spend this post ranting and complaining about how the world has stripped away the real meaning of Easter, and how I think Easter egg hunts are just about the stupidest things on the planet, and how I would really like to just do away with the Easter bunny altogether....
But I won't. Because Easter, or Resurrection Sunday as I prefer to call it, is supposed to be a time of great joy! And ranting doesn't fit into the "joyous" category.
People, listen. Our God is alive! Did you hear me? HE IS ALIVE!!
Jesus was tortured, beaten, and crucified for us. He did it willingly. He loves us that much.
I think over time we have forgotten the enormity of His sacrifice and settled into our comfortable zone of taking it for granted. My question is: how could we ever forget? Why are we not on our knees daily, thanking Him and praising Him for what He did?
It's a sad thing when we gloss over the whole reason of our existence. The reason for our forgiveness. The reason for our hope.
So why is it that all the holidays that started with Him has evolved into becoming all about us?
This Resurrection Sunday, let's halt all the candy-eating for a few moments, call in the kids from their Easter egg hunt, shut off the TV and spend some time simply praising our Jesus. Let's shout out His name from the rooftops, making sure everyone in the world knows what He did for us.
'Cause He deserves it.
It's time to wake up from our spiritual slumber, fellow believers. Do we truly believe all we say we believe? Or does it just sound good coming out of our mouths?
It's time to make a proclamation.
I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of heaven and Maker of earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only begotten Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
Born of the virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilot
Where He was crucified and dead and buried
I believe that He who suffered
Was crucified, buried and dead
He descended into hell
And on the third day, He rose again
He ascended into heaven
Where He sits at God's mighty right hand
I believe that He's returning
To judge the quick and the dead and the sons of men
And I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of heaven and Maker of earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only begotten Son, our Lord
I believe in the Holy Spirit
One Holy Church
The communion of saints
The forgiveness of sin
I believe in the resurrection
I believe in a life that never ends
(Third Day, "Creed")
Have a blessed Resurrection Sunday! He is risen! He is risen, indeed!
This picture was taken last year on the day
when the whole world thought the rapture was going to occur.
I find that more than a little hilarious.
I bet all those people were going nuts over this cloud,
because even I could imagine Jesus coming down from such a glorious cloud.
(He didn't, by the way.)
(p.s. yes, i am very aware that this post slightly turned into a rant despite my initial statement. that's just the way i roll, folks.)

Easter is such a joyous holiday! To get into the right mindset, I've been reading from "Because He Loves Me" by Elyse Fitzpatrick. Have you read it? It is an absolutely amazing book that revolutionized the way I think about the Gospel. =)
I spent today with family who know and love Christ and recognize the *true* meaning of Easter-- I share your thoughts on the Easter bunny! ;) Although I do like chocolate... hehe.
Happy Easter, my dear friend!
